Accountability:
The Analysis and Test Mechatronics Engineering role, will focus at a high level in the areas of: Sound, Vibration and Servo Controls. Performing investigations and applying dynamics expertise to solve problems. He/she is expected to assess the machine for motion control servo optimization, structural dynamics frequency response function (FRF) measurements and tool path precision/accuracy. Individual will keep informed of new developments in their specific core technology.
In addition to supporting the business on any machine issues that falls within the scope of duties. Focused on Machine systems, he/she creates test plans and executes on-machine testing, to investigate, analyze and draw conclusions to determine results and suggestions for improvement and development of products. He/she checks assignments for technical accuracy and prepares technical reports, creates, revises, and documents methods and procedures. Provides technical direction to subordinates; disseminating technology throughout operations and relaying best practices.
Mechanical Testing and Dynamic Analysis:
- Understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and methods.
- Interest in physical testing and troubleshooting.
- Experience in vibration analysis.
- Experience in data acquisition methods and digital signal processing (DSP), preferably with National Instruments equipment and software.
- Experience with Matlab (or similar) data reduction and analysis software.
- Experience of frequency response function (FRF) measurements and interpretation.
- Experience with modal analysis methods and the use of Spectral Dynamics (or similar) software.
- Understanding of finite element analysis and its use in dynamics problem solving.
- Understanding of machine tool chatter theory, identification, troubleshooting, and mitigation.
- Experience in the application of damping methods.
- Experience with the application of dynamics in metal cutting and the use of analysis software such as CutPro (or similar).
- Familiarity with hysteresis (push-pull) testing.
- Understanding of acoustics and noise measurements and noise attenuation methods.
Mechatronic Testing and Analysis:
- Fundamental understanding of mechatronic analysis applied to motion control servo systems.
- Familiarity with mechanical and electrical frequency response function (FRF) measurements and interpretation.
- Application of servo motors and drives, mechanical gears, ball screws, cylinders, etc. with respect to design selection criteria.
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical assembly methods.
- Knowledge of CNC concepts, programming and operating techniques, (Siemens, Fanuc, etc.).
- Experience with data acquisition methods and digital signal processing (DSP).
- Experience with Control Sizer software:
- Siemens - Sizer.
- Fanuc – Configuration Price Quote (CPQ).

Scope and Responsibilities:

- Manufacturing – provides information and assistance with production issues; supplies guidance and training to production personnel; helps develop manufacturing, assembly and test procedures.
- Service – provides information and assistance to Field Service and Install to correct field performance problems; provides technical information and advice for training and development of instruction manuals.
- Technology - Keeps abreast of new developments in dynamics and servo technology and their use in competitive products.
Education/Certification:
- Science Degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Sound and Vibration and Modal Analysis.
Experience:
- Empirical and analytical experience in the area of Sound and Vibration and Modal Analysis.
- Familiarity with Siemens and Fanuc control systems.
- Experience in metal cutting physics.
Skills:
- Ability to coordinate internal and supplier technical support.
- Clear methodology to problem solving and analytical abilities.
- Good written and verbal explanations and presentation of data findings.
- Ability to write detailed Engineering reports to articulate clearly the information gathered with conclusions drawn.
- Self-directed with excellent work ethic and time management skills.
Must be U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
