The operation technician - Industrial Painter position is responsible for surface preparation and coating product per paint specifications and customer requirements. They should ensure that all equipment and products are coated in a manner that meets or exceeds our customer’s expectations, internal and external per manufacturer’s specifications. As orders are time sensitive, it is imperative that the painters can work autonomously and use independent judgment to prioritize jobs, while working in a fast paced environment. This position will include the responsibilities of but not limited to moving materials and equipment with forklifts, pallet jacks, and maintaining inventory control and records; perform all other related work.
Duties and Responsibilities: All duties and responsibilities are essential functions of the position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
- Operate conventional, HVLP and airless spraying equipment
- Operate media blasting equipment
- Mix paint according product data sheets
- Operate and understand blast and paint inspection gauges such as profile gauge, wet film and dry film thickness gauges, etc.
- Operate and understand weather gauges
- Keep accurate records for jobs and environment/ paint usage
- Adherence to a strict schedule to ensure all customer orders are on time
- Use independent judgment to prioritize orders and per supervisor’s instructions
- Safely operate a forklift, man-lift and scissor lift
- Comply with safety and environmental regulations, as well as procedures
- Strict adherence to quality standards and ability to ensure they meet customer requirements and company standards
- Cleaning and maintaining paint equipment, such as sprayers, pots, paint guns, hoses and work area
- Operate the reclaimer
- Perform material handling as necessary
- Assist in other areas of fabrication and housekeeping as needed
- Work overtime as needed
- Maintain paint, blasting, equipment and paint/blasting consumable supply inventories
- Coordinate with superintendent and other departments for materials and supplies
- Following established health and safety policies and procedures.
- Wearing, maintaining and properly storing your personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Labeling all chemical containers and becoming familiar with material safety data sheets.
Education and Experiences
- Previous experience working in painting/coating operation
- Experience operating HVLP, airless, or conventional pressure spraying systems and maintenance of such systems
- Experience using solvent based coatings
- Experience with epoxy, high solids, zinc coatings, and multiple part coating systems
- Experience in operating forklifts
- Using grinders, wire brushes, and buffing wheels for clean up
- SSPC certification preferred
- High School Diploma or GED.
