The machinist is responsible for producing machined parts by programming, setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machines. The machinist is also responsible for keeping records and maintaining equipment and supplies.

 

Duties & Responsibilities: All duties and responsibilities are essential functions of the position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Ability to set up and run CNC equipment utilizing a variety of controls ie. FANUC, HAAS etc.
  • Ability to follow work instructions by maintaining specifications, by observing milling, drilling, tapping, grooving and cutting operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance. Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling maintenance for required repairs.
  • Ability to read blue prints and inspect parts. Check accuracy of work against blueprints.
  • Ability to read ID/OD mics, calipers, tool pre-setting / comparators, dial bore gauges and make proper tooling offsets in the machine tool, as well as, proper speeds & feeds.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.

 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, sit, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

Education and Experiences

  • 3-5 years of CNC Machine operating/set-up experience.
  • Background of machining of castings, iron castings preferred.
  • Previous lathe or milling experience.
  • Lean manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Associate's Degree from a 2 year college or technical school or 2-3 years of related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education & experience.
