Fives HPM is seeking an experienced Service Technician to support customers throughout the Northeast, from Virginia to Maine. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role for a technician with experience in CNC machine tools, electrical systems, controls, mechanical systems, troubleshooting, installation, and field service.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of CNC controls and electrical I/O, with experience on Siemens, FANUC, Mazak, or similar control systems, along with the mechanical aptitude to diagnose problems, take equipment apart, make repairs, and get machines back into operation. We are open to candidates coming from machine tool service, installation, commissioning, maintenance, or controls backgrounds, with additional consideration for those who have led installations, projects, or other technicians.

This position requires frequent regional travel to customer facilities throughout the Northeast. Candidates should be comfortable driving or flying to customer locations within a few hours, working independently in the field, and traveling based on customer and business needs. Depending on workload and project schedules, technicians can generally expect to be home every weekend or every other weekend, with flexibility whenever possible to accommodate personal commitments.

Position Summary

The Field Service Technician is responsible for independently installing, demonstrating, qualifying, repairing, and modifying Fives machines and associated equipment at customer facilities. The position works across mechanical, electrical, and CNC systems and performs assignments based on verbal or written direction from Technical Support, the Service Coordinator, or Service Manager, as well as information contained in drawings, service documentation, and other technical materials.

This role also operates and evaluates equipment to verify that machine accuracy, performance, and quality meet required specifications. The Field Service Technician works directly with customers, provides technical instruction, identifies potential safety concerns, documents service activities, and provides feedback that can contribute to the continued improvement of Fives products.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, demonstrate, qualify, repair, and modify Fives machines and associated equipment at customer facilities, including mechanical, electrical, and CNC systems.
• Follow verbal and written technical instructions and interpret drawings, service documentation, and other equipment documentation.
• Operate machines and associated equipment at customer facilities to demonstrate or qualify equipment.
• Observe customer qualification runs and verify that machine accuracy and quality meet applicable specifications.
• Notify Technical Support or the Service Coordinator when deviations from specifications occur or technical problems are encountered.
• Prepare complete and accurate service reports in accordance with established procedures.
• Train customer personnel on the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of machines and equipment, with an emphasis on required safety precautions.
• Notify customers of unsafe operating practices observed while performing field service activities.
• Provide feedback and recommendations that support the improvement and development of Fives products.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work overtime and/or off-shifts as required by business and customer needs.
• Work and interact effectively with customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders on a routine basis.
• Maintain awareness of and compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements. 

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical, electrical, and CNC technical capabilities appropriate for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and qualifying industrial equipment.
• Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent; two to four years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain a passport and credit card as required for business travel.
• Ability to read and understand international print symbols when required. 

• Ability to safely and effectively use general hand tools.
• Ability to read and analyze professional journals, technical procedures, business materials, and applicable governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts including probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Working knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet software.
• Ability to effectively use internal service and communication systems.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Regularly use hands for handling equipment, tools, and components.
• Frequently reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
• Perform work requiring color vision.
• While performing field service duties, employees may frequently work near moving mechanical equipment and may occasionally encounter wet or humid conditions, elevated work areas, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, electrical hazards, and vibration. The work environment is typically loud.
