POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Fives Intralogistics Corp. is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Electrical Engineering professional to join our team to play an instrumental role in serving our customers and supporting the Services business as part of our company growth strategy.

 

The Electrical Engineer will focus on the development and implementation of the requirements pertaining to the electrical design, software design, commissioning, and technical documentation deliverables as required for the successful execution of Services product retrofit / system level enhancement projects.

 

This position also focuses on employing technical know-how with electrical design, software, and automation control systems for material handling equipment as well as applicable industry codes and standards to support proposal cost estimating, technical scope development, and technical problem-solving to ensure customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Electrical Engineer supports controls related technical/engineering activities associated with the Retrofit & Service Projects, Technical Support, Field Service, and Parts teams within the Services business and is responsible for the following:

General Responsibilities:

 

  1. Knowledge:  Competently understand and work under the guidelines, policies, procedures, and instructions of the Quality System to achieve quality and customer satisfaction objectives.
  2. Relationship Management:  Maintain a good, professional working relationship with all company personnel, vendors, Subcontractors, and customers.
  3. Work Environment:  Competently work in a fast-paced, project-oriented, deadline-driven, and continuously improving environment to meet company goals concerning schedule, technical accuracy, and budget. Willingness to work in both individual and group environments.
  4. Performance:  Use engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  5. Technical Skills:  Maintain technical expertise in controls systems hardware and software technology through training and other forms of continuing education (such as training courses and classes, technical journals and magazines, professional societies, site visits, etc.).
  6. Travel:  Willingness to immediately travel as required by air or automotive to work at remote locations throughout the year with 30% being an average yearly travel requirement.

 

Technical Responsibilities:

 

  1. Technical Awareness:  Thoroughly review and understand the project scope along with the customer’s standards and as-sold documents for a complete picture of the design required.
  2. Work Scope Development:  Assist in preparing and developing project scope of work, technical specification documents, and electrical project estimates for materials, equipment, and/or labor.
  3. Engineering Design:  Design electrical control systems for parcel sortation and transportation products or projects with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Review and select appropriate Fives and OEM equipment to satisfy project functional requirements. Review design drawings for accuracy.
  4. Vendor Relationship Management:  Establish and maintain relationships with engineering subcontractors to coordinate their activities and to ensure the subcontractor work is checked and the standards and quality are within Fives Intralogistics guidelines. Support and consult with purchasing teams in maintaining ongoing and direct contact with contractors/vendors to clarify project specifications and deliverables, build trust and credibility, support negotiations, and influence outcomes.
  5. Programming & Commissioning:  Program and prepare, PLC and GDU software files for the product or project segment deliverables. Preload the PLC and GDU software so the integrator or installer can complete level one checklist.
  6. Design Validation:  Make site visits to the control panel builder manufacturer or other vendors to conduct quality checks for accuracy and functionality prior to shipping to the project site. May also be performed in-house for controls panels manufactured at Fives facilities.
  7. Project Execution:  Execute and Support retrofit projects remotely or in the field, as needed, by conducting the electrical engineering and commissioning portion of the work. Ensure all project tasks, milestones, schedules & task related budgets are met.
  8. Technical Support:  Assist the Parts, Technical Support, and Field Service teams by researching and responding to technical inquiries received from internal/external stakeholders related to Fives & OEM equipment or systems. Perform remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions to solve problems.
  9. Sales Support:  Assist the Sales Team with developing the scope of work and technical specification documents during the project proposal and execution phases of the sales process.
  10. Estimating Support:  Provide cost estimating feedback for materials, equipment, and/or labor and perform equipment and system calculations upon request.
  11. Reporting:  Create technical reports summarizing the background, situation, methods and actions taken, technical findings, conclusions, and recommendations along with appropriate technical reference sources. Complete and communicate various progress, budget, and schedule reports as assigned.
  12. Continuous Improvement:  Support internal company initiatives for continuous improvement. Identify and suggest possible improvements on procedures.
  13. Other:  Other duties as deemed necessary by the manager or supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Qualified candidates must have a proven track record of success in engineering and/or similar technical trades along with a strong design acumen to develop technical requirements. Education and/or Experience

 

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a four-year college or university.
  2. 5+ years related experience and/or training in engineering, project, or technical service roles, preferably in the material handling industry.
  3. PLC Programming experience and knowledge with Rockwell PLC (RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, etc.).
  4. HMI Programming (Rockwell FactoryTalk View, Proface GP-Pro, etc.) knowledge a plus but not required.
  5. Ability to read and modify electrical schematics (AutoCAD Electrical) and troubleshoot hardware.
  6. Tech savvy with working knowledge of office automation products, electrical, software and controls.
  7. Good understanding of computer networking, mobile devices and other tech products.
  8. Ability to diagnose and resolve basic technical issues, customer-oriented and cool-tempered.
  9. Excellent computer skills including MS Office suite, Windows, and ACAD.

 

Language and Organizational Skills

 

  1. Proficiency with reading, understanding, writing, and speaking the English language.
  2. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  3. Excellent time management, organization, and presentation skills.

Mathematical and Computer Skills

 

  1. Demonstrated proficiency with 2D CAD skills. (AutoCAD 2015 or higher).
  2. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  3. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

Reasoning Ability

TRAVEL:

 

This position requires occasional business travel by airplane, car, and/or train and public transportation both domestically and internationally. The candidate must be capable of completing airplane trips of 10 or more hours when needed.  Estimated overnight travel is approximately 10-15% to customer facilities and company offices. This travel requirement may increase over time as the needs of the business demand. Capability of securing a rental car as part of the travel requirements is required.
