Accountability:
Mechanical Design Engineering Intern for metal cutting machine tool products. Under supervision, job responsibilities will encompass designing and analyzing computer-controlled machine tool products (mechanical, electrical, and software), interacting with other business functions, and working with assembly build teams on the shop floor.
The intern will be exposed to the engineering design process which include understanding input requirements, analysis, design, bills of material, drafting practices and standards, drawing/model creation, design verification/validation, test, and shop follow-up. This will be achieved by being given assignments of increasing scope and responsibility throughout an internship at Fives Giddings & Lewis. The intern may participate in Continuous Improvement and Customer Satisfaction activities, root cause problem analysis, design review techniques, failure modes and effects analysis, and hazard analysis. The intern will also be exposed to functional areas outside of Engineering to gain an understanding of the machine tool business.
